PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

TUMBLETIME: Especially appreciated on those otherwise house-bound days, and many times referred to as the "sanity saver", this program lets your children run around and burn off some excess energy some where other than your home!   It's a great opportunity to meet other parents and have your children make new friends. Please help our supervisor by putting all equipment in carrier.

Drop-In Program.  Runs on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 10:00 – 11:30 am in our gym beginning September 30, 2008.

LBCA Power Skating & Hockey Skills - Winter 2009

Program developed by Fred Sloan who has taught the Power Skating Program at the Glencoe Club for over 32 years. Classes are taught and administered by Fred Sloan and other trained coaches who have worked for many years with Fred.

Philosophy of Program

¨       Instructors added to maintain a minimum instructor/student ratio of 5 to 1.

¨       Emphasis is on stamina, skill and fun.

¨       Ice time is considered precious and used wisely to minimize standing around or in line-ups.

¨       Drills are progressive and repetitive in order for students to build on previous successes and develop a feeling of improvement and accomplishment.

¨       Comments are positive, constructive and upbeat.

¨       Pucks are used in as many situations as possible, but not detracting from the skating skill being developed.

¨       Aerobic conditioning is an integral part of skating and the game of hockey and is made part of program.

¨       All drills should have a specific purpose and wherever possible multiple skill development is encouraged.

¨       Maximize use of ice based on student numbers.

¨       Every drill, including warm-ups should be done backward, forward, left and right whenever possible.

Equipment

¨       Students should have skates that fit properly.

¨       For 5 & 6 year olds, full hockey equipment is recommended. A helmet with face protection, shin pads, sticks and gloves are mandatory. The more protection your child has, the softer the inevitable fall and so the more positive the learning experience.

¨       Older groups must wear full protective hockey equipment including neck guards. Mouth guards are highly recommended.

Attendance

Please check in with instructors at the beginning of each session, to be marked present before going on the ice as an award is given to those with perfect attendance.

Missed sessions can be made up by doubling up on another day.

General

Please have your child dressed and ready to go on the ice 5 minutes before ice time.
